The President of NAEA Propertymark, the UK’s leading professional body for the estate agency industry, has spoken of his delight at the number of Lawson estate agency staff accredited by the association. Mark Bentley was amazed to hear that 11 employees at every level of the Lawson team have completed the required qualification to become a member of NAEA Propertymark – and have letters ‘MNAEA’ after their names.
“That is an outstanding achievement and not often the case. At a lot of firms the branch manager or the directors will be, but not many staff are, and certainly not in the numbers you have,” said Mark, guest speaker at Lawson’s recent staff sales meeting at the Beckley Point tower in Plymouth.
“It’s something you should be very proud of. We are working hard to educate the public that they need to be asking if an estate agent is NAEA Propertymark and that it is seen as a trusted organisation in the same way that ABTA is for the travel industry.”
Mark said the association currently has 17,500 members and that membership will become even more important when the Government regulates estate agency over the next two years.
“I am delighted to say that NAEA Propertymark is now the number one ‘go to’ organisation for estate agency and we are in daily contact with the Government as they really want to engage with us,” added Mark.
With increasing competition from the growth in online only and so-called hybrid estate agents, Mark also said that it was more important than ever for traditional estate agents like Lawson to work hard to engage with its customers. He praised the company’s commitment to the highest standards of customer service and said he was particularly impressed with the Lawson money back guarantee, which he had not come across before in the industry.
Mark was equally impressed with the name change and the new website, as well as the company’s new slogan – ‘Estate Agency…Only Better, which he said reflected his mission for the last 40 years spreading the word that estate agents are actually ‘really good, nice people doing a worthwhile job’’.
“The biggest challenge for any agent is how do you get people to call you and not go with an online competitor. It’s so important to be a part of your community and that’s exactly what you are trying to do,” said Mark.
“In re-branding, you had the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and it is clear that as a business you are now bang up to date. You need to be seen out there in the community, with staff acting as ambassadors for Lawson and you are clearly doing that very well.”
